A Doubting Dan 😅

Hi!

This post, I want to talk about doubt.

Doubt is a tricky thing. We've all gone through it.

Doubting whether something will work out.

Even the word "DOUBT" looks like it means trouble. Just by glancing at the letters, I see "don't", "but" and "donut" - all things which we should consume in moderation.

Doubt can be powerful. One minute we can think "hmm I'm not sure about that" then in 10 mins, be in the middle of a downward spiral - "what's my life becoming?!"

I was recently doubting myself. I'm currently in the process of creating and giving a 30-45 min speech to kickstart my speaking career (more details to follow soon😉).

But I started to doubt myself.

And I was getting distracted by the doubts.

"Daniel who do you think you are?"

"Daniel, why would people listen to you?."

"Daniel, you'd be much better off just doing, well, exactly what you're doing now."....

If only our doubts didn't know our name, maybe we could ignore them more easily. 😂

But doubt is gonna happen. Doubt is gonna come.

And that's okay. But the next time it knocks on my door, I'm ready for it! I'll get my girlfriend Wilma to answer it.

No no no we can't do that either. So what do we do?

We talk to it!

I was on the tram and suddenly felt the need to start talking to the doubt in my head.

I said,

"Hey mind?"

It replied.

"What?"

Me: "We're only alive for a short period of time, and yet you're still trying to make me doubt myself? What are we waiting for? That's not cool man."

Mind: "Yeah that's a fair point. Well played...."

See, thinking of the bigger picture, that we're all alive just once, can minimise doubt's grip.

I know doubt will come back - it has my address! But slowly, I'm no longer letting it cripple me.

Because doubt actually points out something interesting.

What I've come to realise, is that if we doubt something, it means that that SOMETHING is important to us. We don't doubt what's not important.

I never doubted whether the train driver getting me to my first date with Wilma liked me or not, I only hoped Wilma would.

So the next time doubt comes up, just know that you're onto something important....then just keep on going, anyway!
